Salary Comparison
Compare two salary figures using a manually maintained currency dataset.
Tool guide
Compare salaries on the same reference basis
Salary comparisons become misleading when the numbers are expressed in different currencies. A role advertised at 80,000 in one currency cannot be meaningfully compared with another offer until both figures are translated into a common reference. Salary Comparison provides that first-pass comparison using the manually maintained currency dataset stored in HireLanz. The tool is intentionally transparent about the rate it uses instead of pretending to provide a live market quote.
Enter each salary, select its currency, and review the converted reference values. The result shows the rate used and the date attached to the maintained dataset so you can tell whether the comparison is current enough for your purpose. The tool is not designed to predict what your bank, payroll provider or card network will actually give you after fees and spreads. It is a consistent comparison layer for research and planning.
A better way to read the difference
The most useful part of a salary comparison is often not the converted number itself but the scale of the difference. Look at the common-currency values, the absolute difference and the relative difference together. A modest percentage gap may disappear once housing, tax, working hours or benefits are considered, while a large nominal gap may matter less if the currencies have moved or the underlying rates are stale. This tool deliberately leaves those judgment calls to you.
Where it fits in a career decision
Use this tool when researching international roles, comparing an overseas offer with a domestic salary, or preparing a compensation discussion. Pair it with the International Salary Calculator for working-hour equivalents and Job Offer Comparison when benefits, deductions and living costs matter. If you are relocating, the Relocation Budget Calculator can add another layer to the decision without turning the salary comparison into a subjective recommendation.
Understanding the rate
HireLanz stores a rate relative to EUR for each supported currency. Each entered amount is translated to the common EUR reference using that maintained rate. Because the dataset is manually maintained, the tool displays the rate date rather than calling an external currency API. That makes the calculation reproducible, but it also means the result should not be described as a live foreign-exchange quote.
Limitations
Currency conversion does not account for bank fees, payroll timing, purchasing power, tax residency, exchange spreads or inflation. It also does not decide which job is financially better. Treat the output as a clean numerical comparison and keep the displayed rate/date with your notes. For a large financial decision, confirm the relevant exchange rate and compensation terms independently before acting.
How it works
Choose both currencies and salaries. HireLanz converts both to a common EUR-based reference for a factual comparison.
Methodology at a glance
Each salary is converted to the common EUR reference by dividing the entered amount by its manually maintained rate per EUR. The result records the rates and dates used; it is not a live market quote.
How the model is calculated
Both salaries are translated into the same EUR reference using the manually maintained rate stored for each selected currency. The rate is treated as units of that currency per EUR, so the entered amount is divided by the rate to obtain the EUR reference value. The tool then calculates the absolute difference and relative difference between the two reference values. It does not apply bank spreads, card fees, payroll conversion rules or purchasing-power adjustments. The displayed rate date is part of the result because a historical comparison is only meaningful when the rate basis is known. If a currency is not present in the maintained dataset, the tool should not invent a conversion. This approach favors reproducibility and transparency over a false claim of live market precision.
Review inputs and assumptions before using a result for a real decision.
Currency values are based on the maintained HireLanz reference dataset. They are not live FX quotes and do not include bank, payroll or exchange fees.
Sources and reference notes
Currency rates are maintained in WordPress. The tool displays the stored rate and update date; it does not call a live FX API.
