Annual Leave Calculator
Calculate remaining leave from an allowance, carry-over, used days and booked days.
Tool guide
See the leave balance behind your headline entitlement
Annual leave can become surprisingly difficult to track when carry-over, booked days and adjustments are involved. Annual Leave Calculator reduces the problem to a clear balance using the figures you know. It is useful for planning holidays, checking a personal spreadsheet, or understanding how much leave remains after several bookings. The tool does not decide what your employer legally owes you; it simply performs the arithmetic you provide.
Enter your annual leave allowance, the amount already used, additional days already booked, carry-over from a previous period, and any company-specific adjustment. Each field is labelled so you can see exactly what contributes to the result. The adjustment field is intentionally flexible because some employers add or remove days for policy reasons, service milestones or other internal rules.
Read the balance as a planning number
The remaining balance is the amount left after used and booked leave are subtracted from your available entitlement. If the result is unexpectedly low or negative, check each input rather than assuming the calculator is wrong. A negative planning balance can indicate that you have booked more leave than the current entitlement supports, but it can also reflect an employer rule that the calculator does not know.
Useful before booking time off
Run the calculation before committing to travel or important dates. If your employer has a separate HR system, compare the result with the official balance because that system may include public holidays, part-time pro-rating, accrual rules, or adjustments that are not represented here. You can also use the result while comparing job offers, where paid leave is one factual part of the overall package.
The simple formula is the point
The tool uses a transparent formula: allowance plus carry-over plus adjustment, minus used days and booked days. There is no hidden scoring or policy engine. That makes it easy to reproduce the calculation in a spreadsheet and explain where a difference came from.
Limitations
Leave entitlement can depend on jurisdiction, contract, employer policy, tenure, working pattern and public holidays. This calculator does not determine legal entitlement or calculate every employer-specific accrual rule. Use the official HR record as the authoritative balance and treat this tool as a personal planning aid.
Quick review before booking
Keep the allowance, carry-over, used days and booked days beside the result. If your employer uses an HR portal, compare the two balances before making a non-refundable booking. The official employer record should take precedence whenever the numbers differ.
How it works
Enter your own entitlement and leave figures.
Methodology at a glance
Remaining leave = allowance + carry-over + company adjustment − used − booked. All figures are user-entered and do not establish legal entitlement.
How the model is calculated
The leave balance is a direct arithmetic model. Available leave begins with the annual allowance, then carry-over and any company-specific adjustment are added. Used leave and additional booked leave are subtracted. The result is the remaining planning balance. Each field is validated as a non-negative numeric quantity where appropriate, while the adjustment can represent either an addition or subtraction because employer policies differ. The tool does not model public holidays, part-time accrual, monthly accrual schedules or legal entitlement unless those values are already represented by the user’s inputs. That makes the calculation easy to audit but intentionally limited. The employer’s HR system should be treated as the authoritative record when its rules differ from the simple model.
Review inputs and assumptions before using a result for a real decision.
This is a planning calculation. Employer policy, contracts and local law may determine a different official leave balance.
