Tool guide
Turn a career goal into a sequence of practical stages
Career planning can become vague when the target role is several steps away. Career Path Planner provides an example pathway with stages, skills and learning areas so you can see what the transition might involve. It is not a prediction of your career and it does not assume that everyone follows the same sequence. The value is in making the next questions visible: what is the current stage, what changes at the next stage, and what evidence would support that move?
Select one of the maintained pathways, enter your current role or stage, and add the skills you already use. Then enter a target role if you have one. The planner maps your input against the example stages and returns the pathway information in a readable sequence. Review the stage descriptions rather than treating the selected stage as an official classification.
Use pathways as working models
A pathway is most useful when you test it against real vacancies. Look at several postings for the target role and note which responsibilities and skills appear repeatedly. Then compare those requirements with the pathway’s learning areas. If the real market differs from the example, the market evidence should guide your next step. The tool is there to organize that research, not replace it.
Make the next step concrete
For each stage, choose one or two actions that produce evidence: a project, a responsibility at work, a course followed by a practical output, or a measurable improvement to an existing process. This turns a pathway from a decorative career ladder into a planning document. You can also use Career Skills Gap Analyzer to examine a target profile more closely.
Why the model stays intentionally simple
The current pathways are WordPress-managed examples. They are not based on a universal promotion formula, employer database or predictive model. Different companies use different titles and levels, and people can enter a field from several directions. The planner keeps those differences visible rather than pretending that one route is correct.
Limitations
A career path is influenced by experience, opportunity, industry, location, employer structure and personal priorities. The tool cannot predict promotions or salary outcomes. Treat the pathway as a structured research aid, then validate the next role against current job descriptions and your own evidence.
Quick review before following a pathway
Compare the example stages with current vacancies in your target market. If employers use different titles or emphasize different responsibilities, adapt the pathway. The most useful plan is the one that reflects the work you can actually demonstrate, not the one with the neatest sequence of titles.
How it works
Choose a maintained pathway and your current stage.
Methodology at a glance
The planner maps the selected maintained pathway to its example stages, then highlights the stage that best matches the entered current role. It is an example progression, not a prediction.
How the model is calculated
The planner reads a WordPress-managed pathway containing ordered stages, stage-specific skill notes and broader learning areas. It compares the user’s current-role text with the stage names using lightweight local matching and then presents the pathway as an example sequence. The target role and current skills are shown as planning context rather than converted into a probability. No salary or promotion prediction is generated. Because job titles vary between employers, the stage match is deliberately approximate. The methodology is intended to help a user organize questions: what responsibilities change between stages, what skills recur, and what evidence might be useful next. The pathway data can be maintained in WordPress without changing the front-end engine.
Review inputs and assumptions before using a result for a real decision.
Career pathways are examples for planning. They do not predict promotions, hiring outcomes or salary progression.
